e107 content management system

e107 is a content management system written in PHP and using the popular open source MySQL database system for content storage. It’s completely free, totally customisable and in constant development.

e107 takes its origin from code originally used on the LiteStep websites. Jalist who was responsible for the development of those websites, wanted to re-use some of the code from litestep.net and ls2k.org and built a more modular system. This system could then be used as a codebase for other people to create their own community driven websites.

The codebase was maintained solely by Jalist until version 0.612 when a development team was formed. The development team now develops, maintains and builds releases for the e107 system.

In 2006 and 2007, e107 was nominated by the public as one of the five finalists in The Packt Open Source Content Management System Award, the results can be found here packtpub

The current stable release is 0.7.11. This version is an almost total rewrite of the 0.6x tree and includes hundreds (maybe thousands) of added features and bugfixes.

Flash CMS – Open source

Open souce CMS has grown to be a good (and even better) choice even for larger sites and portals (Joomla, eZ), mainly because the reality of crowd-sourcing, three heads thinks better than one… At the same time is hard to find a good CMS for flash (even a good buyable one, but there has been a rumour that Adobe Contribute will release flash integreation… Let us hope so…). Anyway does it seems like the open source movement not has “kicked-in” yet for flash developers, alltough there is one-the-way, with sites like ffiles sharing .FLA files, would be hard to find a few years ago.  Let`s hope that the open source movement also kicks-in for flash developers, making really good and solid CMS for flash.

CMS allows the author to manage the creation, amendment and repeal of a website content without the expertise of a webmaster. In addition, and uses this information to update the site. The characteristics of a CMS system vary, but most are Web publishing, format management, revision control and indexing, search and retrieval.

The Web publishing feature enables individuals to use a template and other tools to create or modify Web content. The format management function enables content including documents in HTML format or Portable Document Format (PDF) for the site. The revision control feature allows content updated to a newer version or return to an earlier version. Revision Control tracks and any changes to files of individuals.
