br/>Any discussion on Joomla is bound to be full of points on how this application is different from others of the class. For starters, you should know that Joomla is one of the languages or applications that is used in developing content management systems. The other feature of this application is that it is open source. Open source technologies have often found a lot of favor amongst people, primarily because of their cost and flexibility.
One of the main uses of Joomla is in publishing content over the Internet. Some features of this language, written in PHP, and one that uses MYSQL database as default, are caching of pages, RSS Feeds, Blogs, web searches and other such features that enable you to browse through the Internet easier.
So, when did Joomla start?
Before 2005, people did not know of the existence of Joomla. The start of this system though was ridden with controversies and protests. Andrew Eddie, project team leader, was at the helm of affairs of most protests. Andrew initiated feedbacks from the entire community on how the world of open source technologies could be organized.
In the next some days, Andrew also took in opinions on what name should be given to the system. After a lot of opinion polls, the name of Joomla was frozen on. Joomla, just so you know, means “As a whole”. It must be said that this system was one that has been developed in a big way by contribution from different quarters of the community.
Finally, on September 16, 2005, a month after all the initial efforts of establishing Joomla as an open source content management system took off, the first version of Joomla got released. This really was a re-modified version of the parent Mambo 4.5.2.3, which later got called as Joomla 1.0.0.
